Fight for our environment and raise your flags!

 

Luscious green trees and grass, the scent of nature as the cool wind breeze grazes your face in the fresh morning sun- all comes crashing down in an instant because of the result of our wrongdoings. The grass are now covered in discarded matter, human dirt because of us. The trees no longer bear beautiful leaves and fresh fruit. The breeze carried by the wind changed drastically-now full of smoke and harmful gases produced by us. Though the environment is now almost destroyed, we the people tasked with taking care of our environment for the sake of making our world a better place to live in, but instead ignoring our tasks, when it clearly needs our help to replenish and bring it back to its natural state. The common problems are climate change and global warming.

 

Climate change is a long term change in weather patterns. Though it seems simple not a problem at all, when ignored it can lead to dangerous effects to not only the environment but to us as well. Climate change is caused by the burning of fossil fuels, cutting down forest trees ( deforestation ) etc. The effect of burning fossil fuels is that when they are burned they release harmful pollutants and can result in respiratory problems like asthma .Trees help balance the climate by absorbing carbon dioxide. When cut down the carbon dioxide stored in the trees are released adding it to the greenhouse effect.

 

 For global warming, it is the increase of temperature in the earth due to greenhouse effect caused by other types of gases. It is caused by deforestation, overpopulation etc. When the trees are cut down, they destroy the balance, therefore giving rise to global warming. Overpopulation simply means there are more people breathing, so since there is a huge number of people breathing, the carbon dioxide needed is increased and can lead to global warming.

 

To stop the problems or at least lessen it, we need to raise awareness to protect our environment. We can do this by reducing emissions made by vehicles like cars and instead use sustainable transportation like bicycles and public transportation, saving energy, apply the 3r’s and other. These are just the few methods we can use. But as students specifically, we can do more and think of more solutions. I believe we can.
