The Present is the Result of History
The place in which we live in, the Philippines is a country that suffered a lot through a lot and thrived so much since the beginning. With so many countries that colonized us, the country had been under their reign for so long until that one event that changed everything happened on June 12, 1898.
As mentioned, the Philippine’s Independence Day is on June 12, 1898 and was a very important date for all of us and is celebrated every year, celebrating our independence from Spain in 1898 after 300 years of reign. We cannot celebrate Independence Day without mentioning Emilio Aguinaldo for it was he who united us all together, from writing the proclamation to the making of the current Philippine Flag. The annual June 12 observance of Philippine’s Independence Day came into effect after past President Diosdado Macapagal signed the Republic Act No. 4166 regarding this matter on August 4, 1964. This Act legalized the holiday, which is based on the Declaration of Independence on June 12, 1898 by General Emilio Aguinaldo and Filipino revolutionary forces from the Spanish colonization. The Philippines’ flag was raised and its national anthem was played for the first time in 1898. Though it was a tough battle to fight for independence and it was very challenging since not many agreed to recognize the declaration, like Spain and the U.S. yet the challenge was overcome, with the 1898 Treaty of Paris ended the war between Spain and the U.S. Spain surrendered the Philippines to the United States. The Philippines started a revolt against the United States in 1899 and achieved national sovereignty on July 4, 1946, through the Treaty of Manila.
This proves that because of the important people that we had like Emilio Aguinaldo fight for what is right, the history of the Philippines changed and made the country better.
